Istria truffle hunting

Overview

The region of Istria has always been a special place, so different from the rest of Croatia. Once you cross the tunnel of the Učka Mountain, you are entering a world of its own, whether you want to visit the seaside, or the continental areas. The Northern part of the region is packed with medieval picturesque towns and settlements, each with its unique features, activities and charm. The city of Opatija is located in a sheltered position at the foot of Učka Mountain, just before entering the Istria region. The Opatija Riviera has been one of the most famous resorts on the Adriatic from the times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until today and its promenade is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning cup of coffee. Hum is also known as the smallest town in the world, although it has a population of only 30 people. Nevertheless, Hum is regarded officially a town and dates back to the middle Ages, as is evidenced by its strong fortification. The small town is renowned for its defensive walls and the ancient Glagolitic writings, preserved in the church of St Jerome. Motovun is a fortified town located atop a 277 m high hill, overlooking the splendid Mirna River Valley, and its present appearance dates back to the middle Ages. The position and vistas of Motovun make it one of the most beautiful towns on the Mediterranean. Motovun is also famous for the world-renowned film festival that takes place there every summer since 1999 attracting thousands of movie enthusiasts. Savour the moment and admire the breath-taking view of the sunset from the hilltop.
