This tour is a great opportunity to discover the historic treasures of Dalmatia! We will take you back to the 3rd century A.D. to the antique city of Salona, former capital of Roman province Dalmatia. We will explore the history of ancient Salona and the ruins of its amphitheatre, the basilica and other monuments. After Salona, the tour continues to the Klis Fortress (crucial strategic point and entrance to Dalmatia), but also one of the most beautiful fortresses in Croatia. It was first mentioned in the 5th century, but its appearance dates from the last Venetian restoration. From this impressive fortress, you can will enjoy the panorama of the whole city of Split and the surrounding islands. After that, we return to Split. We will visit the Diocletian’s palace, the best-preserved Roman palace in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The ruins of Diocletian’s Palace, built between the late 3rd and the early 4th century A.D., represent the most valuable example of Roman architecture on the eastern coast of the Adriatic. The walking tour also includes sights such as the cathedral of St Domnius, Jupiter’s temple, the Peristil, the statue of Gregory of Nin, most of which are located near the Split Riva promenade.
